Stepping Up for Survivors: Colonial Youth & Family Services Supports Local Fundraiser for Domestic Violence Victims

ree

At a time when public funding for domestic violence support services is being scaled back, the responsibility to protect and uplift survivors is falling more heavily on community organizations and compassionate neighbors. That’s why Colonial Youth & Family Services is proud to support the upcoming S.A.V.E. (Stand-Up and Voice Empowerment) Fundraiser, hosted by Angels of Long Island, taking place Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 89 North Music Venue in Patchogue.

The event comes in direct response to an $800,000 cut to domestic violence services in Suffolk County’s 2025 operating budget—a decision that has left many victim service providers struggling to meet growing demands. These local cuts coincide with a national decline in federal funding from the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), which has historically supported emergency shelters, counseling, legal advocacy, and case management for victims.

Without action, critical services will be lost. But together, we can make a difference.

Why This Matters

Organizations like Brighter Tomorrows, LIADV, ECLI-VIBES, and others have sounded the alarm: staff are being let go, programs are being suspended, and shelters are reaching capacity. Meanwhile, calls to hotlines and requests for help have not gone down—if anything, they’re holding steady or rising.

Colonial Youth & Family Services understands the importance of wraparound support for families in crisis. We work every day to provide prevention, intervention, and counseling services for youth and families across Suffolk County. Supporting initiatives like S.A.V.E. aligns with our mission to help build safer, more resilient communities—especially during moments when government resources fall short.

The S.A.V.E. fundraiser is more than a brunch—it’s a stand for survivors. Your $40 admission supports Angels of Long Island’s emergency services and includes a delicious buffet, televised horse racing, raffles, and the energy of a community united for a cause.
